Job Description
Now Hiring: Transit Mechanic I (Greenville, SC)

Marathon Staffing is hiring a Transit Mechanic I to support the maintenance and repair of a fleet of transit and service vehicles in Greenville, SC. This is a great opportunity for mechanically inclined individuals looking to build a long-term career in fleet maintenance with paid skill progression and CDL advancement.

** Candidates must pass a comprehensive background check and MVR**

Pay & Schedule
  • Pay: $19.85/hr starting (higher based on experience and certifications)
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 5:00 AM – 2:00 PM

What You’ll Do

As a Transit Mechanic I, you will perform preventive maintenance, assist with repairs, and support safe, reliable vehicle operations for a public transit fleet. You will work under supervision while developing advanced diagnostic and repair skills.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and safety checks on buses and fleet vehicles
  • Complete fluid changes, filters, and basic engine and cooling system repairs
  • Replace brake components, suspension parts, and driveline components as needed
  • Diagnose and repair basic electrical systems (lights, fuses, relays, wiring issues)
  • Assist with repairs involving engines, exhaust systems, and hydraulic systems
  • Respond to field service calls including jump starts, tire changes, and minor roadside repairs
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and properly store tools and equipment
  • Document maintenance and repair work in fleet systems and check sheets
  • Retrieve parts and assist senior mechanics on complex repairs

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • At least 6 months of automotive repair experience OR completion of automotive/diesel training program
  • Valid South Carolina Class D Driver’s License at hire
  • Ability to obtain CDL permit and CDL within required timelines
  • Ability to pass background check and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on mechanical environment
