Survey & Mapping Specialist – Construction Management

Location: Pensacola, FL

Marathon Staffing is hiring a Survey & Mapping Specialist – Construction Management for a full-time role supporting land surveying and mapping activities under the guidance of a Registered Surveyor. What you’ll do

  • Lead and support teams: Direct and assign projects to office technical staff, crew chiefs, and field crews; help with training and professional development.
  • Manage records: Maintain accurate, compliant project notes, files, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Support division operations: Monitor inventory and assist with budget development and cost projections.
  • Perform technical fieldwork: Conduct GPS observations, robotic total station measurements, and vertical control densification across varied terrain and weather.
  • Ensure equipment readiness: Care for precision surveying instruments, equipment, and assigned vehicles.
  • Compute and analyze: Perform boundary analysis and prepare boundary surveys from raw field notes and recorded plats.
  • Draft and map: Create and update engineering design base maps and AutoCAD drawings; maintain GIS base map quality control.
  • Use specialized tools and software: Work with surveying software (e.g., Carlson, Topcon, Leica, Trimble) and online programs (e.g., OPUS, NAVCON, GEOCON, VERTCON).
  • Prepare legal documentation: Verify and prepare official legal descriptions and certified corner record documentation.

Minimum qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Experience: 8 years of specific land surveying experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Supervisory experience: At least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role within surveying.
  • License: Maintain a valid driver’s license from your state of residence.
  • Background: Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Strong understanding of Florida land surveying and mapping requirements (including relevant Florida statutes and administrative code) and the Manual of Instructions for the Survey of the Public Land of the United States.
  • Expert knowledge of modern and historical survey methodologies, coordinate systems, and stakeout calculations.
  • Proficiency with advanced surveying hardware and drafting/CAD tools.
  • Strong math skills, including geometry, algebra, graphing, and unit conversions.
  • Professional communication and the ability to provide clear direction in high-stakes or confrontational situations.

Physical and environmental demands

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 100 lbs, frequently lift up to 50 lbs, and lift up to 20 lbs constantly.
  • Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, and walking.
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions and hazards such as dust, extreme temperatures, noise, moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, and uneven terrain.
