Ceramics Manufacturing General Labor
Position Summary
The employee will be responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and consistent production of quality ceramic products throughout the manufacturing process. This position may perform duties associated with batching and mixing raw materials, operating presses and casting equipment, making and maintaining molds, and operating industrial production equipment.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a ceramics manufacturing/industrial production environment. Employees may work around machinery, presses, mixers, casting equipment, molds, raw materials, ceramic dust, noise, and material-handling equipment. Appropriate training and PPE will be provided in accordance with company requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Measure, weigh, batch, and mix ceramic raw materials according to established formulas, specifications, and production requirements.
- Operate batching, mixing, pressing, casting, molding, and other ceramic manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Set up, adjust, and monitor machinery to maintain proper production rates and product quality.
- Load and unload raw materials, molds, presses, casting equipment, and finished or partially finished products.
- Operate presses to form ceramic components according to specified dimensions, shapes, and production standards.
- Operate casting presses and related equipment used to produce ceramic products and components.
- Prepare, assemble, install, and maintain molds used in the production process.
- Make or modify molds and perform basic mold repairs as required by production needs.
- Inspect molds, dies, presses, and production equipment for wear, damage, contamination, or other conditions that could affect product quality.
- Monitor production processes and make routine adjustments to equipment within established operating procedures.
- Inspect finished and in-process products for defects, dimensional accuracy, appearance, and compliance with quality requirements.
- Use hand tools, measuring devices, and other production equipment appropriately.
- Handle ceramic raw materials, greenware, molds, finished products, and other production materials carefully to prevent damage and waste.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with housekeeping standards.
- Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all company safety policies, environmental requirements, and applicable workplace regulations.
- Participate in training, continuous improvement activities, and team meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Previous manufacturing, industrial, ceramics, molding, machine operation, or production experience preferred.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic ability to read production documents, work instructions, and measurements.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving weights, measurements, quantities, and production requirements.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn to operate manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to identify product defects and recognize abnormal equipment conditions.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a production team.
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position
Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequent use of hands and arms to operate machinery and tools.
- Bending, reaching, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Lifting and moving materials and products within established safety limits.
- Working around industrial equipment, dust, noise, and other normal manufacturing conditions.
- Wearing required PPE for the assigned work area.
