General Labor- Swing Shift

Job Description
Job Title: General Laborer

Mission Statement: The purpose of this position is to perform general duties related to sorting, basket pulling, pouch and bowl production and packaging in a safe and cost effective manner to meet or exceed our customers’ expectation.

Key Result Areas (KRA’s) include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Sorting:
1. Walks up and down stairs to get to the sorting belts.
2. Watches fruit travel on a conveyor belt and removing broken/unsliced olives or pits.
3. Maintains records of pits found.

Pouch Production: (It takes five workers to run this line of which one must be able to read and write English and perform basic math with a calculator)
1. Lifts product filled pouches and places them in trays being particularly careful of the sharp edges of the trays.
2. Lifts and moves pouch tray weighing 50 pounds each. (Team lift only)
3. Monitors filler machine operation which includes climbing up and down stairs and communicating via walkie-talkie with the pump operator.
4. Lifts 70 pound empty pouch cases to load into machine. (Team lift only)
5. Loads pouches into pouch machine clearing any that jam.

Pouch Packaging: (It takes five workers to run this line of which one must be able to read and write English and perform basic math with a calculator)
1. Enters information on a computer to activate ink jet printing on cases and log downtime and line efficiencies.
2. Wipes water off of individual pouches after they come out of the cooker and placing them on a conveyor belt.
3. Lifts and moves pouch trays weighing 50 pounds each. (Team lift only)
4. Loads individual pouches into cases and pushes the cases to the ink-jet belt.
5. Operates a tape machine when necessary and hand-stacks pouch cases of 40 pounds each on to the correct pallets.
6. Operates a tray erector machine that forms cases for filling ensuring machine is kept full of fiber and glue.
7. Inserts manually both tray and case dividers into each case.
8. Inspects and removes any non-conforming pouches from the line.

Bowl Packaging: (It takes eight workers to run this line of which one must be able to read and write English and perform basic math with a calculator. Additionally, this line rotates every 1-2 hours in each position due to the repetitive nature of each position.)
1. Places a form fitting label over each bowl.
2. Places bowls onto a belt to a steam tunnel at a rate of 1 every 2 seconds.
3. Wipes down bowls and inspecting for label quality.
4. Forms fiber and applying bar code stickers manually.
5. Loads cases by hand and sends through the tape machine.
6. Hand stacks cases that weight up to 12 pounds.

Basket Puller: (This position is very physical and requires heavy lifting, pushing and pulling).
1. Lifts 50 pounds trays. (Team lift only)
6. Lifts pouches and places them in trays being particularly careful of the sharp edges of the trays.
2. Operates an electric pallet jack (load hog) while loading and unloading baskets and trays from the cookers (retorts).

While performing the duties of this job, the worker is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The worker is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The worker is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

• Must be able to work Saturday, Sunday and Holidays, and other shifts and overtime as needed.
